Uses of Metallic Cartisane Gimp

In stumpwork, cartisane gimp is often used to create garlands around circles or ovals, framing a vignette beautifully. Short lengths can be folded over, with the help of the embedded wire, and then couched down to form the “leaves” of the garland.

It can also be folded and stitched together to create tassels or edgings for small ornaments. To prevent the thread from unraveling, it is recommended to apply a small dab of Japanese rice paste to the area before cutting, ensuring a clean and secure finish.
