Brazilian Folk Art Painting: Inspired by Cordel Illustration

In this class, participants will explore the vibrant visual language of Brazilian Northeastern cordel literature illustrations. Using reference images as inspiration rather than templates, students will learn how to transform what they see into expressive, rustic folk art of their own. Well draw from Brazilian folklore, flora, and fauna to create flat yet richly textured compositions, focusing on bold shapes, pattern, and storytelling. This class invites play, interpretation, and personal style while honoring the spirit of a powerful traditional art form.

Materials will be provided. No prior experience necessary.
